Normally you would press hit L trigger to give someone pills or a shot, but in the case of a med kit that won't work since hitting the L trigger would only heal your teammate. I'm sorry to say this but that poor old med kit is going to waste away.

If you are going into the hardest difficulty in the game with so little experience, you should expect to have trouble. And since this is a team based co-op game, you are also hurting your team.
